  • Dope NYC Hideout spots

"Dope NYC Hideout spots (when you want to hideout in a corner, and yet still possibly be seen) and/or Cool Places to Bring Your Out-of-Towner Friends. I like hiding out in hotel venues. There are a couple of other spaces that I really love that are intimate and cozy. I kind of follow parties by the DJs just because I know I can guarantee it’ll be a good time and the music will be good. I’ll go to anything DJ Moma does; I’ll go to anything M.O.S. and Kiss do. I’m going to shamelessly plug DJ Charles Browne." -Isis

How long have you been in New York City?

I’m from New York City originally. I went to High School and College in New Jersey, and I moved back to Brooklyn.

How do you connect with the masses?

Having been in PR and Events I've worked in (and with) a variety of industries, including music and entertainment media and the sneaker and hip hop community, so I have friends and colleagues in those spaces. In managing personalities and DJs you deal a lot with a variety of people: sports, entertainment, fashion, etc. Getting into marketing also put me into a whole new space where I garnered new relationships in marketing, events, digital and advertising spaces after I started working with brands. The Influencer Conference that I helped produce helped expose me to whole new range of people in those fields as well. Tweet me at @isarias.

What cities/countries have you worked events in?

I've done events down the eastern board: NY, DC, Atlanta, Miami. I've also worked on a project doing event production from NY for some other markets: Vegas, Denver, Phoenix, Dallas & Houston. I'd love to work on projects in other cities, like LA, or even abroad. I have a dream of hanging out in Costa Rica or Puerto Rico to hide out and handle the major event planning, and then flying over to wherever that project is to make it come to life.

What are some of your favorite brands?

Some of my favorite brands that I've worked with or just am a fan of include: Nike, Hennessy, (Shout to Team Henny Black!), Maharlika and SmartWater. I love Urban Outfitters, Club Monaco, Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Zara, Dolce Vita and Pour la Victoire. I could live my entire life with Ralph Lauren & Chanel. W Hotels everything. Oh, and while I can't get rid of my BlackBerry, I'm totally a Mac.

What is your favorite type of venue?

I love really chill hang spots with great music and fun DJs. I've become a really big fan of hotel spaces. NY has a slew of pretentious spots, still, and the "door situation" tends to ruin some of the most beautiful places.

About what aspect of nightlife are you the savviest?

"I've got people in town, where should I take them?" is the one text that I seem to get the most. Having worked a variety of events, and always hanging out at a different spot, I've realized that when people want to show off "their New York" they tend to call me. It’s hard to put them all down without asking a series of questions like, "What are you looking for?” “What kind of spot?” “What kind of people and music?" as New York tends to be split between "money" and "chill.” Often the type of spots where you need some celeb name and a couple Gs to throw on a table, or - the spots where you can hang out in whatever you've had on all day, grab a beer and kick it and listen to whoever's rocking. It’s like the NY Standard: the Boom Boom Room vs. Le Bain. One you’d better have a reservation, the other you could likely get in (it’s open to the public mainly) but you need to walk in like you own the place, or you still might not get in.

It's Wednesday night and you are with friend from out of town. Where are you and why? I would be at “Baby I’m A Star” because I love M.O.S. and Kiss and the Legendary Damon is amazing. That’s at Gold Bar.

What playlist do you want to share with our citiologists?

Dope NYC Hideout spots (when you want to hideout in a corner, and yet still possibly be seen) and/or Cool Places to Bring Your Out-of-Towner Friends. Hotels

The Standard: Le Bain
Open to the public, so you can kick it at the downstairs bar, or grab a crepe on the rooftop. And if you want to ball out of control, grab an exclusive reservation at the Boom Boom Room also on the 18th floor. (NYC Secret: BBR is open to the public until 10PM, if you want to impress the girl you're hanging with on that early evening date. Reservations are still suggested) I love the Standard.

Hudson Hotel: Library Lounge
When you just want to chill out with the homies on an easy Friday night, or even a weekday evening date that you want to extend. GiantStep was doing some very cool DJ based parties in the adjacent lounge as well.

Hudson Hotel: Good Units
It’s a large space that's extra fresh and the sound is fantastic, but not easy to fill either.

Maritime Hotel: Hiro
Just a great space. Its Japanese/Ninja theme is pretty awesome. Hiro is dope.

Thompson Hotel: Gild Hall
Great manicured lounge space on the second floor. And the mac and cheese downstairs ain’t half bad, neither. A great space. I don’t know if anybody’s doing anything there anymore.

Thompson Hotel: Above Allen
Great lounge with some outdoor space on the 7th Floor. Jasmine Solano and the Frank151 cats rock out there on Thursday evenings.

Gansevoort Park: Red Room
Started off as a great laid back spot for DJ D Nice to rock out and with some recent love from Jay Z and his RocNation celebs, it’s been a great place to spend a Wednesday evening. There’s also a rooftop where they do a lot of summertime roof parties.

Gramercy Park Hotel
SUPER Exclusive spot, between the celeb heavy Rose Bar, the Private Rooftop and Garden. It’s SUPER beautiful and even has heaters upstairs in the winter season.

subMercer
Great venue, great bar, there's a Pole behind the DJ Booth. But the party rocks, and the hotel lobby is pretty.

Soho House
Just a Gathering of NY Exclusive Cool. You'll need an invite to hang out.

Empire Hotel: The Rooftop

James Hotel: JIMMY

Trump Soho: Kastel Lounge

Intimate and Cozy/Bring Out of Towners Hotel Chantelle
Hardly a hotel, but an easy fun spot, great LES rooftop. Check out DJ Kalkutta's 90s party there.

Blind Barber
It’s a barber shop. No, it’s a bar. Oh, it’s a lounge! But wait - its all 3! There are a few 'hideout' spots in the city similar to this with "storefronts" but this is one of the best. Check it out when Charlie Browne spins, and say hi to Josh, the cutie that manages the spot.

230 Fifth
The address is the spot, and it’s easily the best view that you can give a visitor on their first trip to New York. You'll get THE BEST pics of the Empire State Building. Whenever I have people in town who haven’t been to NY I take them there. They have heaters outside, they have robes that you can wear when you go out, and it’s just a beautiful view.

Ink48
Rooftops are great places to be.

Miss Lily's
Easily the New Kid on the Block that's quickly beaming popular. I love Miss Lily’s. Super cool Jamaican vibe, food is good. You should order the curried lobster jaquitos. They’re amazing.

La Esquina (The Restaurant, not the Cafe or Stand)
Reservations ain’t easy on a weekend (check the cafe if you just want to eat) but the downstairs bar and food are fun. They throw parties; they’ll have a DJ.

Lani Kai
Just love it. I did birthday drinks there, and their version of a Pina Colada definitely made for a fun evening. Really good cocktails.

Norwood
Members only, but when the event is good, it’s a great chill spot.

Macao Trading
Deep, dark, with fun apps. Got a cool vibe. Good for cocktails.

Death & Co
Great mixology bar.

RDV
Great club spot - but it totally was more fun when M.O.S. & Kiss were there...

Gold Bar “Baby I’m A Star”
Von
Von is fun.

Tammany Hall
Good Fridays with DJ Soul, DJ Get Live and Max Glazer.

Beauty & Essex
Beauty & Essex has become the birthday spot. This past year it has blow up in terms of great places to throw an event. It’s a beautiful space, and the food is good.

The Stanton Social
Loungy; not really like a party spot.

W.I.P. (Work In Progress)
That’s a great space, I just did a party there; they were awesome.

The Bunker **
I love the Bunker, it’s a cute space and another basement hideout kind of spot.

The Dream Downtown: PH-D, Electric Room, The Gallery
PH-D is a rooftop lounge and Electric Room is downstairs, super cute, nice leather couches hideout. The Gallery is a bigger space, Fool’s Gold Records and LTD hosted their holiday party there last year.

PDT (Please Don’t Tell)
Cocktail lounge annex to Crif Dogs.

Parlor New York
A Norwood type space.

Riff Raff’s
I haven’t been to Riff Raff’s yet but I heard it was really good on a Tuesday.

GunBar
I heard it’s pretty awesome.

Red Egg
They’re doing parties now but it’s a really cute place.

Brunch Parties Lavo
Bagatelle
MPD

Anything you’re working on that you’d like the people to know about?

I’m hoping to produce more festivals. I’m really looking forward to doing things with SXSW and Art Basel. I will probably be working on this year’s spring refresh and the Influencer Conference which will be in the fall, as well as Sneaker Pimps for the sneaker heads out there.
